First responder, responding

How on earth do you behave with a family who is grieving the loss of their loved one?

It’s a sad day when we have to deliver sad news. Especially if it involves loss of loved ones. As one of the first-responders of incidents, it’s my job to – well – respond. And one of the best ways is to do that is to respect the family’s needs to ask for questions. I’m also learning that it’s equally important to be there for my fellow colleagues who also would have lost someone close to them and respect their own need to grieve.

What’s clear to me is this: treating people with empathy & dignity is everyone’s responsibility, not just the business of those in the Human Resource department.

How have you treated the people around you today?

What say you?
